Remember To Smile

Did you smile today? I sure hope you did.

This is probably the first post that I will be writing where I don’t go around saying something else first. Not that I’m not tempted, but this particular topic is just something that is making me feel a little fuzzy on the inside. At first, I wanted to say it’s a topic that I’m writing straight from the heart, but that’s the way I write everything that I do on here. Without thinking about it twice, I just pick up my phone or a laptop and then I just type.

I’m writing this at 10pm. It is the end of the day. I sure had a very long day today. I have had a very long week, as a matter of fact. But funny enough, despite everything, despite the strenuous day and me coming home with tense shoulders and a banging headache, I never lost my smile.

I mean, I know that I am naturally an optimistic person, right? But it’s not always that easy to stay optimistic, especially when people decide to be funny or a life chooses to happen. But I try my best to maintain my smile. It is very rare for a situation to cause me to lose my smile.

I’m not sure I can say I exactly relate to people who find it difficult to smile because I have heard people say that, so it’s not like I’m here to give you tips or tricks on how to smile. I can’t teach what I can’t comprehend, I am just trying to write to let you know that, even against all of life’s shenanigans, smile.

I know that things are tough. I know that some things aren’t going the way you planned. But, does anything ever go according to plan? Regardless, smile and make it a genuine one that reaches your eyes.

There was a day a few weeks ago when I was having a very bad day. Someone had just annoyed me and at that point it felt like one of the worst days of my life. I had gone through so much stress that day and what the person pulled was the last thing that I needed. I was on a bike home, just stewing my feelings a little bit. Usually when I listen to music, I tend to feel better. But that wasn’t exactly helping because not only was I stressed, but this lovely person’s decision or lack thereof was going to cost me at least a two-day delay. So my brain was already just running around on how to get that fixed as much as possible. The more that I thought about it, the angrier I got. My bike reached a part of town where the road is a bit rough. It’s just a short part on our journey. But the road was rough enough for the bike to need to slow down and the vehicle on the other side to slow down as well. And I saw a pretty cute guy with a nice smile through the window of his car.

Now, I’m not sure what it is. Maybe it’s the fact that he was cute. Or maybe it was the cute smile. I think it’s a little bit of both really. But surprisingly enough, that eased my mood. Now, that is a complete stranger. He probably didn’t know that he had that kind of effect on me. But seeing someone else smile, it fixed me up a little. So when I asked that, did you smile today? I wasn’t just asking if you smiled for YOU today. But I was asking if you smiled for other people as well, because you deserve a smile, and so do they…….. I can barely keep my mouth closed at times and.

It’s usually fine, except in the wrong situations. But, I have found reasons to smile during the course of my days. And I sure hope that you choose to find reasons to smile every single day, regardless of whatever happens.

Until next time, remember to spread nothing but love, and keep reaching for the stars.
